Taking up resin crafting is the main reason for silicone molds. Unless you're kicking off the craft with canvas or boards, silicone molds are a must have for all resin crafters. They come in countless designs, shapes, shiny or matte, etched or plain. The ideas are endless for mold makers.
But where do you get them? When I first started out, I was buying resin crafting molds specifically from online websites, Etsy, Ebay, Miniature Sweet and Sophie & Toffee (both overseas).
Then one day, while at Michael's in the baking aisle, I noticed all these wonderfully shaped silicone chocolate mold making items. I thought, hey, it's silicone, resin won't stick..why not.
I figured, I can get these types of molds cheaper in dollar stores, Walmart, thrift stores etc, and I did just that.
I built up my silicone mold collection simply by buying chocolate molds. Just be sure you NEVER use them for edibles if you have used them with resin.
There are also amazing mold makers all around the world. Easiest way to find them, Etsy and Facebook groups specializing in resin crafting.
I began following resin artists on Instagram, which branched off to following them on Facebook and locating their Etsy stores. I got to know some of these mold makers, and faithfully go to them if I need some custom designed pieces.
Being that I'm in Canada, I try to support fellow Canadian mold makers and crafters.
But once again, think "outside the box" when it comes to this craft medium. Anything silicone can pretty much be used for crafting. From simple cupcake pans to lollypop molds, and cookie cutters etc, the world of resin craft has no boundaries.
